Welcome all WVU upcoming freshmen! We are excited to have you here and hope that you enjoy your visit while in Greater Morgantown. After you discover the majors that you are interested in, get all of your questions answered, and tour the WVU campus, stick around for the weekend and discover Greater Morgantown!
Eat like a Local
Greater Morgantown has many restaurants that offer a variety of choices. Start your day with a fresh cup of coffee at The Grind located on the downtown campus beside The Book Exchange. Have a sweet tooth? Walk just a bit further and treat yourself to The Cupcakerie, a well-known cupcake boutique.
While you are visiting, you should try the local food around Greater Morgantown. Lunch and dinner have many options including the award-winning Atomic Grill, Black Bear Burritos, Tailpipes, and Pizza Al’s. Or just walk down any main street in Greater Morgantown and you’ll be sure to find a diner, café, or restaurant that you will want to try!
Explore the Outdoors
Bike the Mon River Trail and explore its wooded terrain. Walk the WVU Arboretum near the WVU Coliseum, and take in the hundreds of flower and tree species. Looking for more of an adventure? Visit WVU Zipline Canopy Tour to zip multiple lines, cross an aerial bridge, and even rappel to a final platform that will be sure to get your adrenaline pumping!
Trek the many hiking trails of Greater Morgantown and visit the overlooks at Cooper’s Rock for a breathtaking view of Cheat Canyon River. Be sure to keep an eye out for the eco-sculptures, too!
Try These Activities
Have you been to an escape room? Visit Morgantown Escape Room or Xscape!, two of Greater Morgantown’s live action escape rooms for friends and family to work as a team to solve clues together. Luckily, you are just in time for the Chocolate Lovers’ Day this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm. This one-day chocolate extravaganza allows guests to sample a variety of chocolate from many vendors. Located downtown, this event is only $5!
End the weekend by having a relaxing day before heading home to finish up high school. Create a work of art at the Wow Factory by attending a pottery, glass fusing, clay, or mosaic session. Tour the Art Museum at WVU that is free and open to the public to view diverse print, painting, folk, paper, sculpture, and ceramic art pieces. Look around the Seneca Center in the local shops, tour the glass creations, and go antique shopping. Relax at one of the spas around Greater Morgantown and remember to take a picture with the Mountaineer statue in front of the Mountainlair on your way out!
