Memorial Day Weekend Activities

Things to do for Memorial Day Weekend in Mountaineer Country

Greater Morgantown proudly salutes those who fight for our freedom. We remember and honor the brave men and women who sacrifice to protect America. You can celebrate these heroes at Triple S. Harley-Davidson’s Memorial Day Cookout on Monday, May 27, from noon – 3:00pm. The cost is a $5 donation, with proceeds benefiting Operation Welcome Home. Military (active/reserve/veteran) eat for free and live music will be played.

Get outdoors and check out events that will be going on during Memorial Day Weekend around Mountaineer Country!

If you’re hanging out in Morgantown don’t forget that the Morgantown Parking Authority is offering free (that’s right, free!) holiday parking from Saturday, May 25- Monday, May 27–available all day in city parking garages and metered areas.

Outdoor

Wanting to catch a breath of fresh air during the weekend? Head to the Coopers Rock Overlook for a beautiful sunset view of Coopers Rock State Forest. Take in the fresh greenery and hear the sounds of nature surround you while enjoying some of the most breathtaking sights. The overlook is open to the public from dawn until dusk.

Stay outside and take in nature’s beauty at West Virginia Botanic Garden. You can walk an easy path through the forest or relax in a hammock! The garden is open to the public from dawn to dusk.

There’s nothing more to feeling like a local than browsing the local farmer’s market! Each Saturday morning (from 8:30am – 12:00pm) on Spruce Street in Downtown Morgantown, the Morgantown Farmer’s Market brings a variety of food and art. Pick up cookies, jams, cheese, meats, veggies and more. You won’t be disappointed!

Art

The arts are alive and well here in Greater Morgantown! Experience the annual River City Arts Festival held throughout Memorial Day weekend each year. The festival will feature jazz, opera, pottery, photography, a patriotic dinner and much more!

Take a minute to cool off at The WOW! Factory or Make It Awesome with the kiddos! They’ll have fun unleashing their creative side, plus, have a souvenir to take back home at the end of the weekend.

If you’re 21 or older, head to The WOW! Factory for the WOW! After Dark event! Grab a friend and stop in between 8-11:00pm for this BYOB night where you’ll get to choose what you want to paint/make that evening. (Prices range from $10-$60 based on what you choose to create.)

Kids

Head to the Spark! Imagination and Science Center and let the kiddos explore both science and the arts through hands-on exhibits and programs.

Take your little monkey to Hovatter’s Wildlife Zoo where they’ll be able to not only see wild animals, like lions, tigers, and bears–oh my!–but they can also feed the giraffes.
