Things to do for Memorial Day Weekend in Greater Morgantown
Greater Morgantown proudly salutes those who fight for our freedom. We remember and honor the brave men and women who sacrifice to protect America. You can celebrate these heroes at Triple S. Harley-Davidson’s Memorial Day Cookout on Monday, May 28. The cost is a $5 donation, with proceeds benefiting Operation Welcome Home. Military (active/reserve/veteran) eat for free and live music will be played.

Wanting to catch a breath of fresh air during the weekend? Head to the Coopers Rock Overlook for a beautiful sunset view of Coopers Rock State Forest. Take in the fresh greenery, and hear the sounds of nature surround you while enjoying one of Greater Morgantown’s breathtaking sights. The overlook is open to the public from dawn until dusk.
Try your hand at cooking with hands-on Cooking lessons. Just in time for your Memorial Day festivities, you can master Famous American Regional Food recipes on Saturday, May 26. Head back on Sunday, May 27 to test your skills with Southern Italian recipes.
Feeling like a Memorial Day weekend motorcycle ride? From Saturday, May 26, to Monday, May 28, Triple S. Harley-Davidson is hosting Freedom Demo Days. Participants with a valid motorcycle license and proper riding gear can test drive Harley-Davidson’s newest motorcycle models.
The 2018 MedExpress Girls on the Run of North Central WV 5K will take place on Saturday, May 26. The 5K will begin at 10 a.m. on the WVU Evansdale Campus. Run alongside the other racers, or cheer them on from the sidelines!
Movies on the Lawn will begin this Saturday at the Preston County Inn. Movies will be shown every Saturday from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.
The arts are alive and well here in Greater Morgantown! Experience the 11th Annual River City Arts Festival held throughout Memorial Day weekend. The festival will feature jazz, opera, pottery, photography, a patriotic dinner and much more!
Reconnecting with Nature for Youth and Parents will be live on Sunday, May 28 at the West Virginia Botanic Garden. This free event invites kids and their guardians to a guided nature walk. You can pre-register here. Kids and parents alike can revisit the Botanic Garden on Monday, May 29 for another nature-filled event: the Young Birders Walk. Bring your binoculars and bird guide for a fun morning of bird watching!
Head to the Spark! Imagination and Science Center for their Young at Art Blow Up Butterfly evening. On Friday, May 25 from 4-7 p.m., kids can create their own butterfly wings and explore the museum’s exhibits.
You can listen to many types of music in Greater Morgantown! 123 Pleasant Street will present live music from Forever Strong and other bands throughout Friday evening on May 25.
The Hillbilly Gypsies will kick off the 2018 Mountain Music Concert Series on Memorial Day Weekend. On Saturday, May 26, visit the Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground to hear old-fashioned style live music from the band.
