What kind of assistance does the CVB provide to Sports Events Planners?

The CVB staff assists with pre-event planning, bid process, site inspections, program assistance, destination literature and registration assistance.

What sports events are best suited for the area?

What is your largest indoor venue and what types of events are held there?

The Hazel Ruby McQuain Community Building is 53,000 s.f. of indoor exposition-type space. The facility provides over one acre of indoor space for trade shows, dinners, sporting events and rentals for private parties, reunions, or receptions. The main hall accommodates up to 4,500 persons, 220 10’x10′ booths, or four regulation size basketball courts.

The Morgantown Event Center is a 30,000 s.f. facility uniquely designed with the exhibit space being located on the ground floor, reaching a depth of 22,946 s.f. and 30-foot ceiling height with interlocking airwalls which serve as a quiet barrier between exhibit halls. This space has been uniquely designed for an exhibitor, stage events (performers and demonstrations), sports tournaments (cheerleading, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing and volleyball) and banquets. The loading dock area enters right into the main exhibit hall and provides an easy access for vendors to unload as well as providing a hydraulic lift for unloading ease.

Are there seasonal rates for lodging?

The West Virginia University football season extends 6-7 weekends between Labor Day and the first weekend in December. It is best to avoid these weekends. The WVU football schedule can be found at www.wvusports.com/football/schedule

HOW TO GET HERE

Airport Information

The Morgantown Municipal Airport (MGW) is currently served by Southern Airways Express with flights arriving and departing daily from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). The Airport is conveniently located approximately 5 minutes from the downtown Morgantown area, WVU campus and Mylan Park.

The North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB) is served by United Airlines with daily flights arriving and departing from Chicago, Ill. (ORD-O’Hare International), as well as Allegiant Air with fights arriving and departing from Daytona Beach / Sanford, Fla. (SFB); Myrtle Beach, S.C. (MYR); and Orlando / Sandford, Fla. (SFB).
