West Virginia Irish Road Bowling
The ancient sport of Irish Road Bowling has been played on rural Irish country roads for more than 300 years. Now it is being played in the green hills and valleys of West Virginia. This old game is a great way to enjoy the pleasure of an afternoon walk with your friends and family and at the same time enjoy some friendly competition with an easy to learn (and play) sport. Besides the basic rules and terms, all is the ability to hurl a 28 oz. sized bowl (a ball about the size of a tennis ball ) with an underhand motion over a 1 to 2 mile country road and see how far it goes. Scored similar to golf, the fewest number of shots from the start to the finish wins.
- Registration begins at the lower gate at approximately noon
- Bowling will begin at approximately 12:20 pm
- Registration is $5 per team (usually 3-4 people) and includes one bowl (ball) and all materials needed for scoring
