Local legend has it that the founder of Morgantown, Zackquill Morgan, was present at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777, a pivotal rebel victory in the American War for Independence that helped the United States secure military and financial support from the kingdom of France. The Saratoga National Historical Park’s (admittedly incomplete) list of American participants in the battle does not contain any entries for soldiers with names similar to Zackquill Morgan, however.

So was the founder of our town present at one of the most influential battles in American history? Stop by the Aull Center at 7 PM on September 19th (the 242nd anniversary of the battle) for a talk exploring the possible answers to that question found in the documentary evidence.
