The George Bird Evans and Kay Evans home will be open for public tours. Their 1815 log house is on the National Register of Historic Places. The tour will highlight their lives and accomplishments as authors and dog breeders. George was also an accomplished artist who illustrated for the Cosmopolitan magazine in the 1930s and 1940s. They teamed to write mysteries in the 1950s and followed by many books on upland hunting.

John A. Cuthbert, Director of the West Virginia and Regional History Center at West Virginia University. wrote, “By the time of his death in 1998, the bibliography of books by George Bird Evans had grown to some twenty-seven monographs (including re-issues) and well over 100 articles. Adding to his legacy is his enduring contribution as the breeder of the Old Hemlock line of English setters whose descendants are still treasured by bird dogs enthusiasts across America.”
