A Weekend Full of Buckwheat Cakes, Local Art and Craft Beer
Looking Back at a Fun-Filled Weekend in Greater Morgantown!
Family, friends and visitors alike ventured to Greater Morgantown this past weekend for the 78th Annual Buckwheat Festival, as well as the Homerun and Hops Craft Beer Festival. Whether you enjoy eating Buckwheat Cakes or you were interested in tasting beer from local breweries, these were two events to be at this past weekend! With good company, great venues and perfect fall weather, guests near and far experienced an entertaining weekend in the Mountain State.
This year’s Buckwheat Festival, “A Treasure Trove of Sights and Sounds,” kicked off on Thursday, September 26 in Kingwood, West Virginia and went until Sunday, September 29. The weekend included festivities such as, the Fireman’s parade, Friday’s School Day parade and Saturday’s Farmer’s Day parade, which featured “The Pride of West Virginia” West Virginia University’s Marching Band.
Individuals also enjoyed a coronation of King and Queen Buckwheat, a livestock show and live music. However, it’s not a festival without carnival rides, arts and crafts, and plenty of food! In fact, the delicious Buckwheat Cakes were served all weekend long!
On Friday evening, September 27, individuals filled Downtown Morgantown for the annual Arts Walk. More than 40 businesses participated and were marked with balloons to easily spot artists. There was a variety of local art to browse–pottery, paintings, jewelry, and more–and individuals could listen to live music and use special deals for the event, as well as use Mountaineer Deals while they were Downtown for additional shopping and dining!
With more than 50 brews to sample, food vendors, a cornhole tournament, and live entertainment by local bands Weary Space Wanderer and Rock Bass, it was a fun afternoon to hang out with friends within the outfield walls!
