Unique Meetings
In addition to its inventory of state-of-the-art conference facilities for large gatherings, Greater Morgantown counts historic, rustic and truly unique sites for smaller groups among its available meeting venues.
Dorsey’s Knob Lodge, opened in 2006 near the pinnacle of Dorsey’s Knob Park, can accommodate up to sixteen people overnight and is ideal for both corporate retreats and family reunions. Savvy planners have learned to reserve the lodge well in advance: located within short drives to cross country skiing, horseback riding, hiking and whitewater rafting opportunities, it books up quickly year ‘round.
The Forks of Cheat Winery is earning a growing reputation as a popular site for smaller, less formal gatherings, too – and it offers the added attraction of producing some of West Virginia’s best wines. The winery’s double-decked outdoor pavilion overlooks the arbors of this family-owned vineyard, which also offers visitors tours and tastings.
Adjacent to Mario’s Fishbowl Restaurant and Tavern (a cultural landmark in Morgantown’s Woodburn neighborhood – just ask any true Mountaineer fan), Crosley’s Banquet Center also offers banquet and meeting space for smaller groups. If refreshments are on the agenda, Crosley’s on-site catering service can prepare and serve lunch, appetizers or dinner for your event.
Looking for an historic site as a venue for a smaller gathering? Consider these– each truly unique to the Greater Morgantown Area. The Garlow/Lewin House, owned and operated in downtown Morgantown by the Morgantown Public Library, offers an elegant setting for literary, arts and historical exhibits and special events. The first-floor rooms of this graceful Revival structure, built as a private residence in 1906 and recently restored, are perfect for more intimate receptions and get-togethers. Another of the area’s historic homes, the Bishop House in Kingwood, Preston County, operates as a fully-appointed, privately-owned bed and breakfast. Also in Preston County, Arthurdale’s Center Hall can accommodate as many as 100 diners and features full kitchen facilities. Arthurdale, the nation’s first New Deal homestead community, was founded by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1934: its fully-restored hall is available for receptions, parties, reunions, meetings and other gatherings.
