Balloons, Brass & Buckwheat
Fairs and Festivals in the Greater Morgantown area will fill anyone with memories. Each of these unique events are a destination themselves.
- The Mountaineer Balloon Festival fills the sky with the color of over fifty hot air balloons. This four-day festival includes balloon races, a nightglow, a fair ground and live entertainment. Held in October the balloon festival is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Nothing is more spectacular than a hot air balloon framed by the blue sky and the colors of autumn in Appalachia.
- The Cheat River Festival celebrates the special qualities, promise and restoration of the East Coast’s largest untamed river. Kayak and whitewater races make this one of the more exciting festivals to be a part of. Music, food and local arts and crafts are also an important part of the festival held each spring.
- The West Virginia Wine and Jazz Festival fills your ears with the sounds of music and your belly with some of the states finest wines. This two-day festival held each September will make you linger and long for more. We promise to get you back to your hotel!
- The Preston County Buckwheat Festival is everything a local fair or festival should be. ¼ celebration, ¼ homecoming, ¼ carnival and ¼ county fair, the Buckwheat Festival is 100% fun. Buckwheat cakes and sausage are a local favorite and are served during the entire festival. Held the last weekend in September the Buckwheat Festival has drawn national attention and has been featured in the Miami Herald.
- Mountaineer Week is a celebration of West Virginia and Appalachian Culture. Held on the West Virginia University Campus this festival features the finest Appalachian music, food, and arts and crafts that the state and region has to offer. Special events include a beard-growing contest (you wont have To stay for the whole thing!) and the PRT Cram.
