1,800-acre lake provides ideal conditions for crappie, channel and yellow perch, bass, walleye, catfish, and panfish. Try the tailwater fishing pier for walleye and sauger at dark when they begin feeding. Located about 25 minutes from Morgantown. (Take U.S. Rt. 119 from Morgantown to Point Marion, PA, turn right after crossing the Cheat River and proceed 4 miles to Cheat Dam. ) The pier is lighted for night fishing and is handicapped accessible. Little Sandy Creek is located just 12.2 miles from Cheat Lake. Whether you’re fly fishing, spinning or baitcasting your chances of getting a bite here are good. If all goes well, the rockie will be hooked by your leaf worms, the catfish will be biting your crickets and the rainbow will be grabbing your leeches. A good area for bank fishermen is the calm water at the approach to the locks. Warm water discharges at the Rivesville and Morgantown power plants will attract fish all spring. A pier at the Morgantown plant makes fishing safe and convenient. Bass and catfish are plentiful.
