Just Add Water

Just Add WaterYour recipe for soaking up fun includes just one ingredient … water!  And Greater Morgantown has  more than its share of H2 Ohhh!

Crystal clear mountain streams and long, lazy rivers are perfect for fishing, canoeing, kayaking and whitewater rafting.  The Cheat River produces Class III, IV and V rapids; half and full day whitewater trips are available through several rafting companies.

Fishing fans will want to catch the Cabela’s King Kat Fishing Tournament & Kid’s Fishing Rodeo (June) and the WV Bass Tournament (July).  The backwaters of Cheat Lake and Little Sandy Creek are prime spots for anglers!

Family-owned Padlz Canoe & Kayak Rentals in Bruceton Mills offers fun on the water for all ages and skill levels. Several deer, ducks, turtles, blue heron, beaver and an otter family have been spotted on the flat waters of the Big Sandy River and the small Bruceton Lake.

Pack some power into your visit and discover all 13 miles of beautiful Cheat Lake on a jet ski or motorboat; don’t forget the skis and tubes!  Boaters can launch from two lake marinas, Edgewater and Sunset, as well as the Port of Star City that accesses the Mon River.

For a little less turbulence, head to the public pools . . . offering zero grade entry, two water slides, and a children’s aquatic play area.

Mark your calendar for the The Wells Fargo Advisors Mountaineer Triathlon and Duathlon (Summer): a sprint distance course along with the olympic distance and half distance races  along the Monongahela River in downtown Morgantown.

Go ahead, dive into the mystery, magic and exhilaration of Greater Morgantown’s beautiful waterways!
