Be a Tourism Ambassador

Greater Morgantown CVB and the Goodwill City Ambassador Work to Support Tourism

The Goodwill City Ambassadors is a community initiative that started in 2012 and has now joined their efforts with Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) to help welcome opposing fans and visitors to Greater Morgantown all year long.

Goodwill City Ambassadors are known to promote good fan behavior and they have been available to all fans before and after every home football game at Milan Puskar Stadium this year. If you’ve been tailgating at the games, you may have seen individuals wearing badges that read, “Tourism Ambassador,” which were passed out at every home football game to promote a fun, positive experience. However, there’s a message behind wearing the badge. For out-0f-town guests, when they see individuals wearing the badge they see a helping hand and a friendly face to get the information they need. The Goodwill Ambassador volunteers also offer visitors up-to-date information about Greater Morgantown and directions around town.

“We couldn’t be more blessed to be a part of the Goodwill City Ambassador program, which shows the best of human hospitality,” said Executive Director of GMCVB, Susan Riddle.

With GMCVB’s support, becoming a tourism ambassador has caught on with the community!

In fact,¬†Transportation Supervisor from both the¬†Courtyard by Marriott Morgantown and the Fairfield Inn and Suites hotels, RJ, was the first recipient to receive the Tourism Ambassador badge. WVU’s Hospitality Club become tourism ambassadors after shadowing the GMCVB staff

Not only have the buttons been passed out to football fans and to employees around the community, but students are also getting involved. The West Virginia University’s Hospitality Club¬†shadowed the GMCVB in October and accepted the challenge to be good tourism ambassadors.

“Focusing on the positives we have right in front of us is infectious and it changes the attitude of the population as a whole,” said Riddle.

In working with the Goodwill City Ambassadors, we can continue showing individuals what it’s like to engage with visitors outside of West Virginia and get them to visit, or revisit, Greater Morgantown.
