Morgantown (Mon County)
Voted the best small city east of the Mississippi River and the third best small city in the entire U.S. by Prometheus Books in 1998, and the number one small city in America by Bizjournals.com in 2000, and the nations number three best small town by Men’s Journal in 2004, Greater Morgantown, WV, provides the perfect blend of small-town hospitality with a cosmopolitan flair, set against a landscape of unparalleled beauty,

Former railroad lines, converted to recreational trails, are among Morgantown's most recent tourism developments. The Caperton Trail follows the Monongahela River for 8 miles of paved surface perfect for rollerblading, strolling and biking. Located within the city limits, the trail runs through Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park, which also features an open-air amphitheatre. The Decker's Creek Trail offers an 1,800 ft. incline over 18 miles. It begins at Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park and runs southeast, parallel to Decker's Creek, into Reedsville.

The ever changing population of students keeps the city vibrant and the diversity of cultures is evident in the restaurant choices available in the area, which ranges from Malaysian and Japanese, to Indian, Italian, Mexican and vegetarian cuisine. Cultural opportunities include West Virginia Public Theatre, Monongalia Arts Center and lectures and performances at WVU's Creative Arts Center.

On the calmer side are the area's scenic wonders. Consider something soothing to the senses, such as a visit to beautiful Cooper's Rock State Forest, the largest forest in West Virginia.

Preston County
A visit to Preston County reveals unique natural attractions and outstanding parks and recreational facilities. The forested land includes the northern tip of the great Monongahela National Forest, and Cathedral State Park contains protected stands of virgin timber. The wild, untamed Cheat River flows through the middle of the county and the rolling, verdant farmlands unfold in the picturesque landscape.

Preston County is rich in history and heritage. You can learn about early Appalachian industry, re-live the 1930's at Arthurdale, the nation's first New Deal homestead or experience a working farm tour.

For the avid outdoor type, Preston County offers over 48 acres of lakes for fishing, sail boating and swimming, as well as 30+ miles of mountain biking trails. Cross-country skiing is a popular wintertime pursuit. The Cheat River provides whitewater rafting on the largest free-flowing river east of the Mississippi.
